Grounded Coffee

Grounded is an East London café group built on the friendship of Smail and Jamal, who met in the 1990s in their hometown of Tizi-Ouzou, Algeria, reunited in the UK in 2012 and launched their first coffee roastery in 2014. Grounded opened on Whitechapel Road in Aldgate in 2015, blending freshly roasted coffee with homemade bakes, and expanded east to Bow Road, converting a former bank into a lively café with a second bakery on site. The mission is a warm, family-oriented, organic halal dining experience rooted in Algerian generosity — ingredients from trusted farmers, all-day brunch and dinner menus, and coffee from sister company Camden Coffee Roastery.
