Hook Norton Brewery is one of the last Victorian tower breweries still working in Britain, brewing in the north Oxfordshire village of Hook Norton since 1849 and still family-owned into its sixth generation - it also keeps a team of shire horses that still deliver to nearby pubs. The brewery holds a tied estate of around 29 pubs across Oxfordshire, Warwickshire, Northamptonshire, Gloucestershire and Worcestershire, from village inns like the Peyton Arms at Stoke Lyne to town-centre houses such as Ye Olde Reine Deer in Banbury and The Castle in Oxford. The estate is tenanted: each pub is run by its own proprietors on a Hooky agreement, so pub recruitment sits with the individual licensees, while the brewery employs its own brewing, sales, visitor-centre and shire horse teams.
