ICCO - The People's Pizzeria - is a family-run London institution founded in 1999 by Ashraf Kamel, who arrived from Giza delivering soft drinks to cafes and took over a corner cafe on Goodge Street that became The Italiano Coffee Company. Pizza soon took over the menu, and students, office workers, builders, cabbies and night-shift Londoners found freshly made pizza at prices rarely seen in central London; a marinara still starts at £3.95 after only four price rises in 26 years. Now led by Ashraf's son Tamer Kamel, ICCO runs three pizzerias - the original in Fitzrovia, Greek Street in Soho (open until 3am at weekends, with a private basement for up to 50) and Camden High Street - all serving slow-fermented, 100% halal pizza made fresh daily, with vegan options, click-and-collect, delivery, catering and an app. The Guardian once sent a writer who ate here four times in a week; Time Out called it one of the best cheap eats in London. The careers page invites applications to a team where staff stay for years, with free meals on shift, flexible schedules and training.
