Sir John Fitzgerald Pubs is a family-owned Newcastle pub company with roots back to 1896, when Tipperary-born wine merchant John Fitzgerald — later Lord Mayor of Newcastle and knighted in 1920 — bought his first licensed premises. His descendants still run it today: a dozen of the North East's best-known pubs and restaurants, from city-centre institutions like the Bridge Hotel, the Bodega, the Bacchus and Fitzgeralds on Grey Street to converted farmsteads and country inns such as Shiremoor House Farm, Twin Farms, The Plough at Cramlington and The Ridley Arms, plus the Tavern & Galley on the Whitley Bay seafront. Renowned for real ale, curated wine lists and homemade food from locally sourced ingredients, all open seven days a week.
