The Wetherby Whaler is a family-owned Yorkshire chain of fish and chip restaurants and takeaways, founded by Phillip and Janine Murphy in Tadcaster in 1969 and serving "the finest value fish and chips in Yorkshire" for over 45 years. Around 220 full- and part-time staff across seven branches — Wetherby (the original, 1989), York, Wakefield, Pudsey, Guiseley (the restored former Harry Ramsden's), The Empire at Outwood (with drive-thru and tribute-night events) and the Tadcaster takeaway — serve about 750,000 portions of haddock a year, with click & collect, kids' club, non-gluten menus and licensed, air-conditioned restaurants.
