Black Country Ales is a family-owned brewery and pub company based in Kingswinford in the West Midlands. Its first pub, the Lawford Arms in Rugby, opened in 1992, and the purchase of the Old Bull's Head in Lower Gornal in 2002 uncovered a Victorian tower brewery (established 1834) behind the pub; brewing restarted there in 2004. The estate now runs to more than 50 traditional real ale pubs across the Black Country, Birmingham, Staffordshire, Shropshire, Worcestershire, Herefordshire, Warwickshire and Leicestershire, each with between 8 and 25 handpumps and traditional bar snacks such as cobs and pork pies. Pubs are run by self-employed licensees on an open-ended agreement with on-site accommodation and running costs covered by the company; the former Droitwich Working Men's Club and The Plough at Overross in Ross-on-Wye are being refurbished as the next openings.
